Gate‐controlled series capacitor: A new methodology for mitigating sub‐synchronous resonance in a series‐compensated DFIG‐based wind farm

Series-compensated transmission lines can lead to a sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) phenomenon at high compensation levels, where the system lacks stability. Gate-controlled series capacitor (GCSC) is widely used damp SSR. Here, an effective and new methodology for damping SSR presented. The proposed method aims alleviate based on estimating both frequency maximum value of voltage magnitude signal rather than using Proportional Integral controller. appropriate turn-off angle corresponding applied GCSC condition that estimated within range frequency. If out frequency, steady-state (1130) GCSC. capability under various wind speeds, control interaction (SSCI) validated by time-domain simulation eigenvalue analysis. Compared presented latest GCSC, all obtained results demonstrate oscillations converge faster when activated.
